MWP Vision Quest

October 7th, 2023

One day Tournament

*** Venue change for the MWP Vision Quest ***

Marana Mountain View. 3901 W Linda Vista Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85742

The gym at the original location Marana High School is having a new floor put in. They did not make the deadline of our event. Two weeks late.  So we moved to Marana Mountain View. 3901 W Linda Vista Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85742   It’s a sister school with the exact same Huge gym Instead of going west of the I10 Interstate Hyw. Now you go east of I10 Interstate Hwy. It's actually 2 miles closer to the  I10.

Things to do, places to visit

On Sunday after the Tournament make it into a great vacation. Lots to see and do.

cavesMy Personal Favorite thing to see is the “Kartchner Caverns” If you have not been there yet it is a must-see and do. So Cool! It wasn't until February 1978 that Tenen and Tufts told the property owners, James and Lois Kartchner, about their amazing discovery. During the four years of secret exploration, the discoverers realized that the cave's extraordinary variety of colors and formations must be preserved.

The cave's existence became public knowledge in 1988 when its purchase was approved as an Arizona State Park. Extraordinary precautions have been taken during its development to conserve the cave's near-pristine condition. Some of the most notable formations are described below, but the cave's wonder must be experienced to understand the full effect of its grandeur.

Kartchner Caverns is home to:

  • One of the world's longest soda straw stalactites: 21 feet 3 inches (Throne Room)
  • The tallest and most massive column in Arizona, Kubla Khan: 58 feet tall (Throne Room)
  • The world's most extensive formation of brushite moonmilk (Big Room)
  • The first reported occurrence of “turnip” shields (Big Room)
  • The first cave occurrence of “birdsnest” needle quartz formations
  • Many other unusual formations such as shields, totems, helictites, and rimstone dams.

Please Remember: Many of the formations you will see have been continuously growing for tens of thousands of years. The formations grow very slowly and are extremely fragile. When visiting remember that formations damaged even by accident will stop growing. To avoid damage to the cave and injury to yourself please refrain from touching any of the formations.

Visit the Mission of San Xavier del Bac

missionThe mission of San Xavier del Bac is one of more than 20 Spanish Catholic missions across the deserts of Arizona. Located a mere 10 miles south of downtown Tucson, the church sits on the Tohono O'odham Nation Reservation. It's also one of the most recognizable architectural structures in the area. The church, which is still fully functional and active, was opened in 1797, which makes it the oldest European structure in the state, though the O'odham provided the labor.

Pima Air & Space Museum

pima air & space museumThe Pima Air & Space Museum houses one of the world's largest aircraft collections with over 80 acres of exhibits. Take a narrated tram tour for some backstory, reserving a spot on the AMARG tour for exclusive access to the "Boneyard." View thousands of artifacts and touch hundreds of air vehicles in six indoor hangars, three of which feature WWII aircraft. Museum highlights include the capsule from the Apollo 13 movie at the Aerospace Gallery and the SR-71, the fastest airplane in the world.

Take a Trip onto an Old Movie Set

movie setOriginally built by Columbia Pictures in 1939, Old Tucson was made to resemble an old western town that could be used in movies. Hundreds of movies have been filmed on the movie set, though most of them were done before a fire in 1995 that took away quite a few of the existing buildings. Classic movies such as Arizona, 3:10 to Yuma, and A Star is Born all include the original Old Tucson set. Tours of the movie set can still be arranged, and everything outside of it is fully family and dog-friendly.
